Mount Longido is located on the edge of the town of Longido near the border with Kenya. It is possible to climb Mount Longido in one day, but it is definitely worth spending the night on the mountain and then reaching the summit on the second day. The summit is at an altitude of 2637m above sea level. The hike goes through a wooded area that leads to a rain forest higher up, and buffaloes are often seen here. Maasai warriors are your guide during the hike.
Climbing Mount Longido
Over the next two days, we will be climbing Mt. Longido (2637m), the sacred mountain of the Maasai people. Located in the western region of Kilimanjaro, near the town of Longido and close to the borders of Kenya. A truly unique off-the-beaten-path experience.
You’ll be accompanied by a local guide who will take you to the summit. While the trek is relatively short at just 6.5 kilometers, it comes with its challenges due to a significant 1300-meter ascent. The climb to the top takes around 5 hours and brings you to the summit around 5 p.m., just in time for sunset! Once we’ve set up camp, we’ll have dinner and a night spent under the starry mountain sky.
The following morning, the descent is a more relaxed 2-3 hours, with a photo break at the Leopard Rock viewpoint before returning to the starting point where our driver will be waiting.
It is possible to climb Mount Longido in one day, but it’s worth spending the night on the mountain.
Please note: that this experience is exclusively available as part of our complete safari package. Due to the remote location, we are unable to offer it as a separate group or private excursion.
