• Tour Length: 7 Days /6  Nights
    • Best Time to Travel: January to December

The Lemosho route is unspoiled Offering captivating stunning panoramas, pristine wildlife, outstanding acclimatization opportunities and the lowest traffic of other hikers.

The route is one of the few where groups may be accompanied on the first day by an armed ranger, as the forests around the Lemosho Glades are inhabited by buffalo, elephant and other wildlife. This rote can be completed in 6days. However we recommend hiking the route in 7 days, because the extra 7th day will give you more time to acclimatize and reducing the effects of altitude sickness and give you more time to rest before attempting to reach UHURU PEAK (5,895 M)

Day 1: Lemosho Gate to Mti Mkubwa Camp

Your adventure begins with an early morning drive from your hotel to the Lemosho Gate, where you will meet your crew and complete the necessary registration. After the formalities, you'll start the trek through the lush rainforest. This section is relatively easy, with a gentle climb that helps you get accustomed to the altitude. The vibrant flora and fauna of the rainforest provide a stunning backdrop, and you'll begin to notice the unique sounds of the forest as you walk. Upon reaching Mti Mkubwa Camp, your tents will be set up, and dinner will be prepared by the crew, allowing you to relax and enjoy your first night on the mountain.

Elevation: 2,100m to 2,750m
Hiking Time: 3-4 hours

Day 2: Mti Mkubwa Camp to Shira 1 Camp

After a hearty breakfast, you'll continue your trek through heathland and moorland, steadily ascending to Shira 1 Camp. The trail gradually opens up to expansive views, and you'll pass through unique terrain, from dense vegetation to sparse high-altitude plants. The ever-present sight of Kilimanjaro's summit in the distance serves as a reminder of your ultimate goal. The day’s hike takes you to Shira 1 Camp, where you’ll be greeted with panoramic views of the Shira Plateau and the mountain itself. The slower pace today allows for further acclimatization to the altitude. As you settle into camp, enjoy a delicious dinner and the night’s cool air.

Elevation: 2,750m to 3,500m
Hiking Time: 5-7 hours

Day 3: Shira 1 Camp to Shira 2 Camp

Today, you’ll cross the Shira Plateau, a relatively flat section that allows you to enjoy the stunning views and unique high-altitude landscapes. The terrain consists of rocky paths and alpine meadows. As you make your way across the plateau, you’ll notice a dramatic change in the surroundings, from grassy fields to a more barren, rocky environment. Shira 2 Camp sits at an elevation of 3,900m, providing spectacular views of the plateau and the Western Breach. This day is designed to help with acclimatization, as the gradual ascent and relatively short trek give your body time to adjust to the altitude.

Elevation: 3,500m to 3,900m
Hiking Time: 3-5 hours

Day 4: Shira 2 Camp to Barranco Camp

Today’s hike is one of the most significant days for acclimatization. You’ll ascend to the Lava Tower (4,600m), a dramatic rock formation that marks the highest point of the day. The route becomes more challenging as you move through semi-desert landscapes, with rocky paths and a distinct lack of vegetation. After reaching Lava Tower, you’ll descend nearly 700 meters to Barranco Camp, nestled in a valley below the Breach Wall. This "climb high, sleep low" method helps your body adjust to the changing altitude. The views along the way, especially of the Western Breach and the Breach Wall, provide excellent photo opportunities. Once at camp, enjoy a hot meal and the beautiful surroundings of the Barranco Valley.

Elevation: 3,900m to 3,900m (after descent)
Hiking Time: 6-8 hours

Day 5: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

Today is all about the Barranco Wall, a famous and challenging section of the climb. This steep wall requires careful footwork, but the reward is a stunning view from the top. After conquering the Barranco Wall, you’ll continue to Karanga Camp, where the route becomes gentler. The landscape is dominated by alpine desert, with vast, open spaces and little vegetation. Along the way, take in the sweeping views of Kilimanjaro’s glaciers and the surrounding valleys. Karanga Camp provides a perfect resting spot to prepare for the final leg of the journey. After arriving, enjoy a well-deserved meal and spend the night in this serene, remote location.

Elevation: 3,900m to 4,000m
Hiking Time: 4-5 hours

Day 6: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

The trek from Karanga to Barafu Camp will take you through the alpine desert, with rocky, barren terrain and stunning panoramic views of the surrounding areas. The final push to Barafu Camp is shorter, but the altitude starts to make the hike more demanding. Barafu Camp sits at 4,600m and serves as the base camp for your summit attempt. Once at camp, you’ll have time to rest and prepare for the upcoming summit night. The guides will provide a hot meal and ensure you’re well-equipped for the summit. This is your last chance to rest before your summit push, so take it easy and conserve energy.

Elevation: 4,000m to 4,600m
Hiking Time: 4-5 hours

Day 7: Barafu Camp to Summit (Uhuru Peak) and Descend to Mweka Camp

Your summit day starts around midnight with a brief snack to fuel your climb. The first part of the hike is done in darkness, but the anticipation of reaching the summit keeps spirits high. As you ascend toward Uhuru Peak, the temperatures will drop, and the air will get thinner, making breathing more difficult. After several hours of hiking, you'll reach the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro (5,895m), just in time for the sunrise. Enjoy the sense of accomplishment as you stand on the Roof of Africa, taking in breathtaking views of the glaciers and the surrounding landscape.

After summiting, you’ll begin your descent to Barafu Camp to rest briefly before continuing on to Mweka Camp for the night. The descent is long but rewarding, as you make your way through the rainforest and back to a lower altitude. When you arrive at Mweka Camp, enjoy a celebratory meal with your team and share your summit experience. This will be your last night on the mountain.

Elevation: 4,600m to 5,895m (summit), then to 3,100m
